Eigentlich arbeitet Vanja Vukovic auf der Straße. Im urbanen Raum mit seinen Begegnungen und Interaktionen sind die meisten ihrer Fotografien, Collagen und Video-Performances beheimatet. Aber die Pandemie führt eben in vielerlei Hinsicht zur Abkehr vom Gewohnten. Viel stärker als zuvor ist man auf sich selbst geworfen. „Bleiben Sie gesund!“ thematisiert Umgangsformen der Hygiene, die in kurzer Zeit zur verbindlichen gesellschaftlichen Etikette geworden sind. Als historisches Material dient ihr die Schul-Dia-Reihe „Sauber sein macht froh“ aus dem Bestand Wanne-Eickel. Die 1962 herausgegebene Serie für Kinder im Alter von sieben bis zehn Jahren erhebt die Forderung nach einer sauberen, geradezu keimfreien Ordnung zum Erziehungsdiktat. Vanja Vukovic dekonstruiert das historische Material und setzt es in die Gegenwart. Das Badezimmer als tabuisierter Ort wird dabei zum öffentlichen Raum. Über dem Alltag schwebt die Angst vor dem Virus, die Spektralfarben durchbrechen die bedrückende Stimmung. Die Serie „Bleiben Sie gesund!“ entstand während des ersten Lockdowns im Mai 2020. In den drei Quadratmetern ihres Badezimmers. Eine seltsame Serie in einer seltsamen Zeit.
Vanja Vukovic’s work is located on the street. Most of her photographs, collages, and video performances are located in urban spaces with all their various encounters and interactions. But in many ways, the pandemic has caused a departure from the familiar. Much more than before, one is left to depend on oneself. „Bleiben Sie gesund!“ deals with hygienic issues, which in a short time have become obligatory social etiquette. The school slide series „Sauber sein macht froh“ from Wanne-Eickel city image archives is an historical reference material. The series, published in 1962, for children between the ages of seven and ten years, demands a clean, almost germ-free order for the dictates of education. Vanja Vukovic deconstructs that historical material and places it in the present day. The bathroom as a tabooed place becomes a public space. Fear of the virus hovers over everyday life; the spectral colors break through the oppressive mood. The „Bleiben Sie gesund!“ series was created in the 3 square meters of her bathroom during the first national lockdown in May 2020. A curious series for a curious time.
